How Long Does It Take To Build A Business?

When I started my first business I was only 23 years old. I had no idea what exactly I was getting myself into, but I was really excited.

Each time I sat down to start a new business I would ask myself, “ what is it that I want to do and what kind of money do I want to make?" .

I was always coming at it from the wrong angle, when I was looking to start a business, I was thinking about how much money I could make versus how many people I could serve.

This carried on for multiple years in a row. Yes, I wanted to help other people, but most of the time I was really just thinking about myself.

When I started my fifth company,The Content Company (we even launched a podcast), I had a deeper understanding of the client, not just us.

Starting a business is hard as shit, nobody will ever tell you that, well the good ones will tell you that, but many coaches and many other mentors will tell you that you can start a six-figure business in 90 days or you can do extraordinary numbers in a short amount of time.

This simply isn't the case and why so many businesses fail because they are set with unrealistic expectations. So what does it take to build a business?

Here are a few things :

  1. Understanding what compels you

  2. Knowing your 'why'

  3. Understanding the market

  4. Grit

  5. Tenacity

  6. Absolute fucking passion

The number one thing I see when I talk to entrepreneurs, male and female, is that they get stuck in the minutiae of all of the things that need to be done in their day and don't focus on the passion.

If you're not focussed on the passion or who you serve, you won't get up in the morning to do what needs to be done. So many times business owners are focused on the accounting or focused on the marketing or focused on the selling and not focused on who they serve.

If I'm being honest the amount of time it takes to start a business isn't very long but the time it takes to build a business and create an empire takes a lot of time and a lot of passion and a lot of effort.

Rushing to the finish line Is never what's going to get you to build a successful company.

If you think about all of the ways that you can serve your clients, you will win.

If you think about all the money you're going to make and all the trips you're going to take and that's your focus, you're never going to build a business.

It will take forever to build a business. And to be honest it won't build, you'll end up being burnt out and resent the shit out of what you're doing.

The length of time it takes to build a business and to be profitable is different for every company, but it's important to understand that none of it's going to work out unless you feel passionate about what you're doing.

Here are some tips:

1. Sit down and write all the ways that you are looking to serve a community or a customer.

2. Decide on how much time you have to spend on your new business.

3. Are you willing to do what it takes to make it successful ie: will you put in the time?

4. Do you still live in scarcity or do you live in abundance? This matters when starting a business.

5. Have you done the inner child work?

These few questions are just the tip of the iceberg. There's so much more that goes into starting a business. I want you to just have a really hard and honest look at what's involved.

Being an entrepreneur is one of the greatest gifts I've ever been given. I will say though, that it's not for everyone, in fact, it's not for most people. When I think about all of the things that I need to get done in my day, sometimes I feel overwhelmed. When I feel overwhelmed I close my eyes and I think of who I serve. When I think of who I serve, it all becomes crystal clear that I absolutely and simply do not have a choice to do anything except what I'm doing. This is my life force/

I'm here to serve. I am here to build an army of Love Soldiers.

So if you're an entrepreneur and you're looking for ways to build your business in a way that's going to create wealth, more time and more freedom, let's chat. If you're somebody who is looking to become an entrepreneur and start a business, I would say make sure that you have enough funds that will sustain you for a long enough time until your business can really start making money (no more than 12 months tho!).

Too often we see companies and businesses that start who don't have enough financial security to really make a go of it, don't let that be you!

Big Love,

Cara
